About Via Scientific

Via Scientific builds next-generation bioinformatics software for researchers and data scientists. Our flagship product, Via Foundry, empowers life science teams to design, run, and share complex multi-omics workflows with speed, transparency, and reproducibility.

We're a mission-driven startup passionate about accelerating discovery in life sciences — and we’re looking for a hands-on, empathetic, and experienced Software Architect to help lead us forward.

What You'll Do

As Software Architect at Via Scientific, you’ll guide the design, scalability, and evolution of our platform. You’ll be deeply technical, highly collaborative, and comfortable influencing product and business direction.

  • Architect and evolve our full-stack platform
  • Stay hands-on in the codebase and contribute to critical product work
  • Develop, implement, and socialize engineering best practices and code standards
  • Steward the incorporation of AI into all phases of our business
  • Guide UX and workflow design decisions in collaboration with product/design
  • Mentor junior, mid-level, and senior engineers across the team
  • Support deployment and performance through DevOps and MLOps leadership
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and company leadership to align on priorities
  • Communicate clearly with both technical teams and executive stakeholders
You Might Be a Fit If You Have
  • 10+ years of professional software development experience
  • Deep full-stack knowledge of React, Node.js, and TypeScript
  • A background in startups, with comfort in ambiguity and speed
  • Strong understanding of DevOps, cloud infrastructure (GCP and AWS), and multi-cloud deployments
  • Experience working with databases (MySQL, MongoDB), schema design, and performance
  • Experience using AI-assisted code/test development
  • Experience with MLOps, ML applications, or scientific data platforms
  • Expertise with security, multi-tenancy, scaling, and observability of SaaS platforms
  • Familiarity with workflow engines or workflow orchestration platforms (e.g. Nextflow, Snakemake, WDL)
  • Passion for mentoring and growing engineers
  • Bonus points for Life Sciences & Bioinformatics experience
Why You'll Love Working Here
  • Mission-driven work that directly supports life science breakthroughs
  • Transparent, passionate, collaborative, and flexible team culture
  • Hybrid workplace with strong in-person & cross-functional collaboration
  • Real ownership and opportunity to shape what we build and how we build it
