What is autoscaling?

Updated:

September 16, 2025

Autoscaling is a cloud computing feature that automatically adjusts computing resources, such as virtual machines or containers, based on workload demand. In bioinformatics and data-intensive research, autoscaling optimizes performance, lowers costs, and supports large-scale, dynamic computational workflows. In Foundry, scaling is delegated to backends such as AWS Batch or Google Cloud.
