What is image alignment?

Image alignment is the process of adjusting multiple images so that corresponding features coincide. In bioinformatics and microscopy, it’s used to combine images from different modalities, time points, or tissue sections. Alignment corrects for shifts, rotations, or distortions, enabling accurate comparison, integration, and downstream spatial or morphological analyses.
